Showing off the Stick of Office was lots of fun.

I had to speak, and while I don’t think my speech was all that amazing, I found a good quote for it, an excerpt of which is given below:

George Bernard Shaw once wrote:
“Some see things, and they say ‘Why?’
But others dream things that never were, and they say ‘Why not?’”

As you continue on in life, and especially as Engineers, never forget to say “Why not?”

I never cease to enjoy the Dean’s Benediction.

Autumn’s Here http://utools.ca/journal/2005/09/26/autumns-here/ http://utools.ca/journal/2005/09/26/autumns-here/#comments Mon, 26 Sep 2005 07:48:37 +0000 Steve Woodrow http://www.utools.ca/journal/2005/09/26/autumns-here/ leaf the blue skyI would love to leave school behind for a moment
and take a drive
out to the country, somewhere in the interlake
watching the forests and spent fields fly by
lit by a sun less direct than in the younger days of summer

We would stop somewhere that looked interesting
somewhere we knew from fleeting glances many times before
and wander through the coarser grass, looking up
at the golden leaves set crisp against a cloudless blue sky

The wind here blows cooler than before
a gentle but tireless reminder
of what soon awaits both us and this land

Today I write an epitaph for white plastic http://utools.ca/journal/2005/04/22/today-i-write-an-epitaph-for-white-plastic/ http://utools.ca/journal/2005/04/22/today-i-write-an-epitaph-for-white-plastic/#comments Sat, 23 Apr 2005 03:24:36 +0000 Steve Woodrow http://www.utools.ca/journal/2005/04/22/today-i-write-an-epitaph-for-white-plastic/ As I pulled the RAM and Airport card out of my iBook and erased its hard drive yesterday, I was feeling a little sad. Despite all the trouble caused by my little friend, he was still a very handy tool throughout the past two years, and I’d grown attached. He stuck with me through thick and thin for some of my more interesting adventures and arduous tasks to date: Gillam, Toronto, Tech Comm and UMES Promos and Engenda, as well as huge reports in Digital Logic and µP Interfacing, major programming projects, and countless assignments and other such things.

We’d been through a lot together, but when he failed for the fourth time, enough was enough. Soon he’ll be back where he came from — hopefully a better place. And I’ll have to learn to love an aluminum ‘book instead.

So long, my shiny white friend.

Dean’s Benediction http://utools.ca/journal/2005/04/03/deans-benediction/ http://utools.ca/journal/2005/04/03/deans-benediction/#comments Sun, 03 Apr 2005 09:01:25 +0000 Steve Woodrow http://www.utools.ca/journal/2005/04/03/deans-benediction/ Dr. Ruth offered this benediction to the graduating class of Engineering tonight:

“May God bless and keep you always,
May your wishes all come true,
May you always do for others
And let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars
And climb on every rung,
May you stay forever young.”
— Robert Zimmerman (aka Bob Dylan)
